One shot summary
In a post apolyptic world devoid of seasons, where man's "golden age of technology" ruined earth and caused science to run amok, there live four individuals trying to overcome thier pasts. This one shot covers the ups and downs of thier daily lives.

Story 1: Weepy old killer- Mihai's story. It's about his life as a hitman, what happened to the one woman he loved, and how he faced a demon born through his training.
Story 2: Gun smoker- Badou's story. A hilarious story about how he's chased all around the city for taking a picture of a gang lord doing something really embarrassing. you figure out whether he has the guts to take a beating at the end of the chapter.
Story 3: Blade Maiden - Naoto's story. It explains why she's so vengeful, how she got her training with the sword, and how she got the scar on her chest.
Story 4: Stray dogs howling in the dark Haine's story. He is touched by a rare sense of heart when he sees a winged girl bought by some rich man and tries to save her.

Bullets and Carnage Summary
Haine and Badou aren't exactly the best match. Haine only saves badou if he remembers to, and usually makes a big mess since he gets carried away, and Badou always gets caught right off the bat and whines the rest of the time. To make matters worse, Haine's past catches up to him and some tacky characters try and "drag the black dog out of him." Naoto hunts for her parents' killer and finds she needs to ask Haine for advice, but how will he handle it?

Characters

Haine: Now here's a strange one. He's grouchy, sarcastic and as far from charitable as one can get. When he's freelancing, he constantly is pining about wanting to go home and trying to worm out of work. He's hard to motivate, and often dumps all the work on his friend, Badou. However, if the guy they're after does something to annoy Haine (like pulling a trigger at the wrong time), he goes through a massive mood swing and rampages through the place talking like a raving lunatic. Outside of battle, he's a mysogonist (dislikes women), and isn't that chatty. Bold and unafraid (other then the girl thing) in nature, it's hard to tell whether he's strongheaded or just doesn't care. He also happens to know alot about movies. o_O.

Badou: A complete opposite of Haine. He's cowardly and submissive guy by nature who runs away alot and takes on pathetic freelance jobs. He's a die-hard smoker and has one in his mouth ninety percent of the time. If he goes to long without one, the situation gets ugly for anyone in his vicinity. He doesn't seem very bright, and is often called stupid, but he has a knack for making everything work out (lucky guy!). Badou is far more social then Haine and openly jokes and comments about everything on his mind. Apparently, there's some story behind his missing (rumored to be glass) eye and scar on his hand that he hasn't revealed yet. Badou is one of Haine's only buddies and spends most of his time getting rescued by Haine.

Naoto: She seems to be soft spoken and kind to people on her side, and merciless and icy to her enemies. Her persona is just and righteous, as well as polite. Her politeness can turn hard and demanding when she's facing the right people. However, when someone linked to her quest for revenge comes her way she is willing to do anything to force information out of him (as seen when she tortures one guy). She's tenacious and determined to get what she wants. Naoto is a talented knife fighter and uses a katana rather then a gun. Her chest was scarred during a brutal random murder which took her parents and her memories.

Mihai: The only normal guy in the group. He is very rational for a former hitman and sought a quiet life working in a cafe after a tiring chain of events that left him depressed and lonely. Since he is from an older generation, he doesn't tend to involve himself in the other three's squabbles when they come for a cup of coffee in his cafe. He also seems rather indifferent toward situations that don't concern him, perhaps something he picked up while bieng a hitman.

Blind churchman: A downright funny and quirky fellow. Not much is known about him except for he's blind, haine's friend and works in in a shady looking church, where he seems to have an impossible amount of money stashed away. He's a bit of a loli freak, and takes pride in the dresses he buys Nil.

Nil: A little girl with wings Haine picked up on one of his travels. She's sweet and shy, but very valuable and constantly defended by Haine and co. (haine has a soft spot for her) She can't speak since she is genetically engineered and is the only person that can touch haine without making him writhe.

Loki+noki (hardcore twins): I love these two. They do everything in unusion and act just like how girls would act- even when they're on an assasination mission. They are very annoying and often argue with one another, and sport two different colored eyes and fluffy outfits.

Giovanni: Someone related to Haine's past. He seems to have an unhealthy fixation with Haine that drives him to torture the poor guy.

Review

Art: 10/10
Story: 9.8/10
Characters: 10/10
Overall: 9.93/10

Art: I love the art in this manga. It's simple, clean, yet effective and stylish when it comes to action without confusing the reader. The partially exaggurated expressions keep a realistic feel, without watering out the comedic parts. The elegance of the art makes reading this manga a pleasure. The action sequences are astounding and dramatic, with awsome layouts and maximum use of the page ^^ One more thing i noticed that i absolutely adore is the gestures. If you look at the posture and positions of characters when they say certain things it seems so natural!

Story: Though only eight chapters have been released, the story holds alot of promise, however i couldn't give it a ten because it's not visible yet, which is good because there is nothing worse then belting out a plotline in the first chapter and following it for the next fifty. The comedic parts are, subtle, hilarious and smart. There is very little slapstick and kiddy humor and more intelligent jokes, which is something i prefer. The story itself laced with conspiricy, which then is woven using incidents from the dogs' pasts. It's too early to tell whether the story will be a winner, however, though this is definantly a manga to keep an eye on.

Characters: Where do i get started. The charcter developement is amazing and the characters, despite thier quirks are so likeable, i would keep reading the manga even if everything else was terrible (which it isn't). Each character's personality is believable, with certain points of it embellished to make them stick out. The interactions between these people are complex and only make the manga better. (after just eight chapters i'm rooting for a NaotoXHaine pairing)

Wow... great post O_O
Makes we want to read this ^^ It sure sounds interesting. Artwork looks awesome as well. Is this manga licensed yet?

it is in fact, unlicensed. You can find scanslations of it on mangatranslation.com where they have bittorrent links, or at #lurk on mirc.

I love this Manga. There is Dogs -7chapters, Dogs:Hardcore Twins -1 chapter Dogs:Bullets & Carnage 42 Chapters so far, all available on OneManga also the 4 OVA's Dogs Bullets &Carnage introducing the main characters. I love Badou Nail, character introduced in 2nd OVA Gun Smoker. The comparisson to Black Lagoon is right on the money. I too would like to know if there is anything as great out there!

Since I saw the first 2 OVAs I read the Manga. I like it beeing so dark and unfriendly.
Nao is by far my favorite Character, she looks damn good even though or especially because of the scars.
Badou is great too especially when hes out of smokes, cant stop laughing at him.

The only bad thing is that there is only one chapter each month or even less.

And I hope they will animate the manga to the end and not stop with the 4 OVAs.
I wonder why they changed the angel. In the manga she looks like about 10-12 years old and in the anime she is about 15 or so. I dont think it has to do something like "she shouldnt be a kid, the audience wont look good at us", because yeah its already too late ^^

So, I just read the prologue volume, it's pretty kickass. I'm glad I found time to read it, finally. Badu is a great comic sidekick, Michael is badass (hope we'll see more of him in action). 直刀's (whatever her name in Japanese/English is) story was kind of cliche and not that great. HaiMi (the weird white-haired dude) is also not that great of a character thus far, but his action scenes are awesome (Matrix isn't good enough anymore), and the little angel-girl is also pretty cool and mysterious.

Well, I'll be on break soon, so maybe I'll get to vol. 1-4 soon enough. Any idea if/when more are planned to be released?

Oh, and BTW don't mind my screwed-up names, I've been reading the Chinese translation, the transliteration can only be that close to the original names...

Also, in response to OP, the manga feels more like the Gungrave anime than Black Lagoon, at least until GG went into all that zombie bull****.
