Well I loved episode 9

It was intense as well as action filled.

Or maybe just because I'm a huge Saeko Fan

The manga/anime comparison aside, I also enjoyed the indepth look at Saeko. Again, it was a tale of two sides with her... or three if you include the "dark side" she talks about.

Her character grew more dynamic as she displayed shades of softness and femininity, strength and courage through her fighting and the dark side of humanity as she surrendered any morals and ethics and sought delight in violence.

It was another reminder that no matter how "civilized" or "advanced" we may consider ourselves, buried beneath everything there lurks other, darker desires that can transform us into another person; and if we surrender ourselves to them, we lose part of what we call our humanity.

I'm thinking based upon the schedule I've seen on this show perhaps after episode 10, they'll do a two part finale for this season (or series). I really don't get the anime industry sometimes... they can completely "redo" Dragon Ball, spend the money and air time to rehash the 200+ episodes yet they take good stories, condense them down into a 12 episode series, then "move on." You'd think if the manga has a strong following they would at least try to anticipate multiple seasons or a 26 episode run.

Ah well

QUOTE (askara @ Aug 31 2010, 02:30 PM) what i want to know is why the hell takashi didnt take the other sword when there is 2.
If they stay somewhat true to the manga, you will find out why in the next episode. You mentioning the sword reminded me that the sword Saeko picks up in this episode is also out of order. It's not supposed to happen til the end of next episode and in the process of receiving it we discover a bit about her background. They blew that one out of the water too.

This anime...

I like it so much!

when i saw episode 9 i hoped.. (i know it sounds crazy) that tommorow the world be a zombie and i was one of those survivors

I get the feeling that this anime will end with a HUGE cop out.

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE MANGA!!!!
The part where the Chinese nuke explodes over Tokyo and EMPs the whole place, knocking out all power and electrical equipment. I get the feeling they are just going to allow the nuke to land and destroy Tokyo, killing EVERYONE in the anime version.

Damn I really get the feeling of an anime ending even harder. In the manga they never kissed so maybe they go the "Saeko-route" in the anime.

Except for that a really great ep with the best Saeko you can get. I just love her especially when she goes wild. Perfect woman for me.

But the thing with Takashi grabbing her breast was even more ridiciulous than in the manga -.-

@obsan: It couldnt be helped since Ive been reading the manga for a year or so now. So I just have to compare ^^
And its still a win for now. And I must say I cant really remember an bad anime who was made out of a great manga, but thats probably because I havent watched a lot of animes who differed from the manga. Kurokami is the only one I can think of and the anime was a win just like the manga (who finally went on again).

OK then, I'll excuse you this one time.

I know it's so hard not to compare when you've already been exposed to it before hand. It was like that with Negima for me. I had seen the original, then I started reading the manga, then I saw Negima!? and saw they had made the Neo Negima manga... I just couldn't help but compare quality, storylines and began saying "they should have done this" or "That looks so much better" and "That never happened in the manga!"

Same thing when Lord of the Rings came out in the movie theater; I knew people who scrutinized every detail because they had read the books.

Me personally, if they leave this series hanging at 12, I will be disappointed; mainly because it would have felt like I watched 12 episodes and in reality only.... 3 days had passed in their "reality." As mentioned before, there's an abundant amount of potential written all over this anime. For things to come to a sudden stopping point (or even an open ending with no continuation of the series) will be nothing short of a complete let down for me.

Agreed. I'm still not sure why he even did that really. Was he supposed to be trying to get her pissed off?

After reading the current manga, even to volume 7, the amount of time has been less than a week. I don't see any reason why anyone would have complaints. Given the scenario that the zombie apocalypse has begun, many events can happen within seven days. What I'm finding a bit off is the taking out of order of arriving at the hilltop residence and when Takashi and Saeko split off from the group. But that is a mere technicality.

But I also am sensing that there will be a cut-off for the time being. At the rate of printing in the manga, it might be at least two years before a second season is produced, if it is produced at all.

The author and illustrator are exploring different reactions people in a modern society would have when the entire social order has collapsed. I find the reading and the series amusing and has given me some points to speculate and amuse on. We should enjoy there high level of skill to illustrate and write a story.

Again, I'm speaking purely from the non-manga, looking solely at the anime point of view. I can understand and even respect how the creator wrote this story and that he probably deliberately wrote this story the way he did to cover all the possible events that could unfold in the first days of civilization breaking down.

What I'm saying is, from the standpoint of a viewer watching this story unfold, there really hasn't felt like anything major has been achieved. There really hasn't been a climatic moment they've built the story up to in order to reach a conclusion; even if it's only purpose is to usher in an open ending to this season/series.

I would consider it a disappointment because of this; not to say that the whole series is disappointing, rather the "ending" would be. This is another basis of why I try not to read a manga before seeing the anime once it's announced and I find the premise interesting; I try to stay objective towards the anime without a biased based upon the original work. (not that reading there's anything wrong with reading ahead or having read the manga, it's just my personal preference

) The action, the artistry, the premise and even the fan service is nice, however unless it has a point or ultimate direction... it can be argued there's a lack of substance.

Perhaps this is the hard part of storytelling with this particular type of story too. The story is about survival against "them" and humanity running amok. The "antagonist" is generalized and not anything specific like an organization, a person or group in particular. These aren't normal people banding together to take on a military power or some organization like a gang or group of terrorists. This story is more about this particular group of people simply trying to survive and as such without a main "bad guy" to focus upon, the milestones they reach at each success feel a bit less significant. Or maybe not... perhaps I'm just in a minority on this.

I have three things Im pretty disappointed at the last ep.
First is Yurikos voice, I really dont like it. It almost destroys her character and thats really bad since she is the hottest in the entire cast.
Second was the way Takashi was holding Saya in the air. Why did he lift her so high instead of lifting her a bit to look her in the eyes like you would normally do?
And third is the oilment scene. I thought it would be longer and more extreme and risky. But thats probably because it wouldve been cutted out for tv that they didnt even do it.

Except for that the ep was pretty good and sticked to the manga instead going the Saeko route I thought it would do.

As expected, more Highschool of the Dead will be coming in some form or another:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-...bundle-anime-bd

This announcement may very well indicate that the series will end with a cliffhanger rather than an anime original ending. Whether or not the last episode will be rushed or attempt to come to a closing of some sort is another issue, but hopefully it won't be something along the lines of "we'll fight/live for the future" cliche-like ending.

I 'am amazed at how unhappy some people must be with their lives to actually wish for stuff like this to happen to the world...

Anyway, I got stuck playing catch up with the few series I decided to keep watching; and I must say that this one was done pretty well. Although I can't put my finger on why I don't complain about the pointless ecchi here, when I can't stand it in other animes...

@Kit: Well if they do decided on such an ending, then all they have managed to do is throw away potential profit and --- oh wait, japanese anime companies are great at doing just that, nvm.

class episode, man cant believe they released the nuclear bombs.

out of interest, and without giving anythin away does this happen in the manga?

I can't believe it either. What exactly do they hope to accomplish by doing that? If the zombie break out is happening all over the world, they can't possibly believe it's an attack from another nation. In the episode when that guy was trying to convince the president to do that I was like "And why are you suggesting nuclear warfare?"

And what was up with the teacher. He's acting all high and mighty telling Rei to kill him if she wants, and the second she decided not to he looks mortified. That's where you're supposed to put a smug look on you're face. What was he even doing there? If it was just to give Rei a dramatic moment, who would want to kill their teacher just because they manipulated your grades and made you repeat a year. Yeah you'd be pissed off, but want to commit murder?

Yes that does happen in the manga causing the EMP mishap. Which in turn cuts off most communication and whatnot. Pretty much the worst case senario during a Zombie Apocolipse if you ask me.

Besides I'm sure that they are going to save the next story arc once the manga progresses any further... at least I hope so.

As for the teacher... well it's fully explained in the manga that he was supposed to hold her back a year to send her father a message to drop the whole investigating his father's business. Not only that, but he wanted to see if she actually had th guts to kill him outright. I mean she even said it was not worth it due to the fact that it would be a complete waste of time. So him being shocked that she decided that it wasn't worth it kind of makes sense there.

Back to the nukes, it's pretty much the reason if you nuke a zombie infected area everything will die, including the zombies. I mean that's pretty much the idea of what they did to Racoon City in the Resident Evil series. So I think they were trying to pay some respects to that series. I mean most of the things that have happened or will hapen in this series will be or have been related to certain zombie movies.
