Sometimes when the full page ad appears on the main page the ad will begin to fade in, but then halfway through it stops and then firefox will stop responding. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's happened on multiple occasions so far. I have no clue why it would crash firefox though. I haven't tried to see if it does it with other browsers like IE. Does anyone else have a problem like that with your browser crashing as the ad tries to load?

Yes, I get the exact same problem. I don't seem to remember it happening when I used Windows XP though. Do you use Windows Vista by any chance? I don't know how to fix this problem unfortunately.

No, I use XP

Have you checked all of your add-ons and security tools? They can cause the browser to freeze when they don't like something. You could try starting Firefox in Safe Mode: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

I'm not sure if this works but try installing adblock plus extension for firefox. This will automatically prevent the ads from loading.

The other way is to go to the main page and under the ad there is a little link that says hide ads. Try and see what happens.

I stopped short of suggesting adblocker for, as Clowd once said, "Daft will be a sad panda" if we "turn the ads off". Of course it is a valid option.

All the add-ons that I have right now are the same that I had on my old computer and it never froze on me before on my old computer. The only new add-on that I have is Adblock Plus, but I haven't set it up to block the full page ads that appear, mainly because I'm so rarely on the main page that they don't come up that often. How can I set it up to block just that full page ads?

I also got the new firefox update, but it froze on me again later that night after updating so the update didn't fix anything.

And Nahrallah, it is glorious to be the Pirate King.

I had several times that full page ads crashed Firefox when I visited FTV site previously. I first thought that it was a Java or flash problems since some ads utilized them. I am wondering if this is the case too?

I found out that the ads crash firefox when you do anything before the ad loads. Like if you click on a link or if you scroll down, the browser will get confused and crash. Basically the first time you come on the main site give it a couple seconds to make sure it isnt going to throw an ad at you.

I have had my browser crash a few times, and it only happens when I do something before the ad loads.

I've been having this same problem occur. However, I've noticed that it has ONLY happened with the moui ad. That ad has crashed my precious firefox about 90% of the time it shows up. I've never had any other ad crash the browser, though.

I suggest getting "Adblock Plus" It's a Firefox add-on that does what it says, it blocks adds. It starts out with a list of adds to block and you can add more to that list if you see one it doesn't block already.

It seems like you're having a Javascript conflict. You can (and really should) try the latest beta of Firefox 3. Some of your addons might not work but it's way better than Firefox 2 and the current build is really stable already anyways. I don't have any Java problems or anything. Also the current build is way more compliant to the current web standards and it leaves a smaller memory footprint and takes less processor time to run.

If you don't want to do that you can either take everyone else's suggestion and use adblock plus and the filterset.g filter updater or you can turn off javascript completely. If you turn off javascript that ad won't be able to run at all but you'll also lose other javascript stuff which is kinda a requirement now.

Well good luck.

i just got the crash but afterwards the ad came about 15 times in intervals of about 5 seconds...though its seemed to have stopped now
