The two sides just seem to be so completely different at times, I don't think you can say there are more male than female fans with any accuracy. I actually know very few male anime fans - both IRL and online. I've also noticed a tendency for some female fans to prefer manga and not watch very much anime at all.
It just seems like an over generalization to say "there are no female fans" when the fanbases seem to have different ways to interacting and different styles they're into, anyway. I mean, on this site yes there are more male fans but if you went over to livejournal I'm sure there would be very few male anime fans represented in comparison to the large female anime fanbase.
